Loss

Download Village Informers

The word “LOSS” best describes the recent death of Roger Sweet our Superintendent of Pubic Works and Fire Chief. Roger was the type of guy that would give his shirt off his back for you. He always had in mind what was best for his neighbors and fellow Village residents. He will be missed.

Staffing

Andy Hecht has been appointed as Interim Superintendent of Department of Public Works. Andy has been with the Village for some time now, also serves on the Fire Departments for Caro and Mayville, and his family has a long history in our area. Robert Hiiter is the new Fire Chief. Robert will be bringing years of experience to the job with support of not only the Village organization but also the Fire Department.

Transition

This transition time will be difficult not only because of a good friend being lost, but also the learning curve for everyone and the need to continue the delivery of services with reduced staff. We ask for your patience and understanding during this time while still making a commitment to you to provide the best possible service we can with the resources we have.

Rubbish

The Village has committed a new five year agreement with Republic Waste for the household rubbish removal. The new contract when signed will include carts which will take 3 33 gallon garbage bags. Extra pickups can be arranged for. Additional information will be distributed by Republic when the carts are distributed sometime around the first of August.

Water and Sewer Rates

The Council has approved a 25% increase in water and sewer bills. The rate increases take effect with the July billing. The extra revenue will be used for operational expenses and also for the setting aside of a few dollars to cover needed capital expenditures and potential repairs beyond normal maintenance. It is important for you to look at the usage on your bill. From time to time a higher usage in your household can impact dramatically your water bill. The DPW will be happy to help you through some steps to insure that you have no leaks in your house or business.

The Water We Drink

The Village of Mayville will have copies of the Consumer Confidence Report beginning July 6. You may pick up a copy at the Village Clerk Office at 297 East Ohmer or the Department of Public Works at 5950 Fox Street. The CCR is submitted to regulatory agencies to insure that reporting requirements are meant to insure a safe water supply.  The CCR shows no violations of the standards for safe drinking water. The Village water is safe to drink.

Audit

Even though an audit report can help solve any insomnia issues you have, we do have copies of the audit for the last fiscal year available for your review. The can be obtained through the Village Clerk Office. In short summary, the Village is in better condition financially then it was last year by adding to the fund balance in several accounts and spending less then was taken in from revenues.

Clerk and Treasurer

The Village is starting the process of hiring a new Clerk and Treasurer that will assume the responsibilities upon the term endings for our present Clerk and Treasurer. Jim Welke and Judy Hartzell have done a terrific job for the Village over the years. The Village has been fortunate to have their services. A big thank you goes to both of them for a job well done. Enjoy your retirements. Watch the Mayville Monitor and the Tuscola County Advertiser on how to submit an application if you are interested.

Energy Team Leader

The Village is also advertising for an Energy Team Leader. The position is funded through the Department of Energy. The employment will be for the duration of the grant application
