Dear Residents,

Over the last twelve months the village has faced many challenges, some were more easily overcome than others.  In May 2009, the governor by executive order reduced revenue to the village by 3.1% or $3,552.  Second, in November 2009 the state legislature reduced revenue to the village by another 11.1% or $12,317.  Third, the governor has issued a state directive that reduces revenue another 20% in 2010 which is $19,809.  In short, the village will have to operate with $35,678 less dollars every year beginning very soon.

July 2008

Next, the village placed a 2.0 Millage for street repaving on the November 2009 ballot, which was rejected by the voters.  Many of the responses that I received from the October 2009 newsletter indicated that taxpayers felt they were “Taxed Enough Already” (TEA) and repairs should be paid out of the funds already paid in by Summer taxes.  The following information was provided by Tuscola County:

October 2008

January 2009

Villages and Cities: $ at 50,000 taxable value:

Gagetown:         21.6036 Mills = $1,080 Annually

Cass City:          18.1387 Mills = $907 Annually

Caro:                  16.1643 Mills = $808 Annually

Kingston:           15.9153 Mills = $796 Annually

Fairgrove:          15.4616 Mills = $773 Annually

Millington:         14.0888 Mills = $704 Annually

Mayville:           12.7312 Mills = $636 Annually

April 2009

July 2009          The Village Council has voted to reduce village services which will take effect April 2010.  If the Millage Rate is not increased (has not been increased since 1997, over 12 years) police services will be extremely reduced.  Please attend the February 16, 2010 budget meeting to discuss your ideas beginning at 7:00 pm, Fire Department.

Village Manager 2nd Annual Review:

I am pleased to announce that I have been serving the Mayville Community for over two (2) years; with a start date of December 3, 2007.  Over the last year since my first annual review the village has achieved the following businesses:

  • A new business in the Industrial Park; the wonderful new facility Northern Log Supply!
  • A new business in the Downtown District; welcome to Mayville SpliSeal! (Old Dave Shell Building).

Please email me your thoughts on what you think the #1 or #2 priority for the Village Government should be…
